Recently our EIDT was reviewed by DPSQUA and we were cited for having employees in the building before there pertinent background checks and finger prints have all been approved. We explained that the ones we had just recently hired were not working with kids, but completing in-service while we awaited results. He explained that, basically they cannot even be in the building until we formally hire them after the results were all in and approved. We asked, what if we were to put a portable building on our property so the new employees could do the necessary in-service. He said it did not matter because if they had to come in and use the restroom that could lead to contact. So, since that is apparently the case, and other facilities have experienced similar citing’s, and/or warnings, what, if anything, can be done to gain employees? We have opted to have them do the checks through email, once we have their application and given the agencies their email addresses, and then, of course they would be fingerprinted at the local dhs office. Then when all results are good, we could hire them. We also will give a bonus at the end of 60 day hire to compensate the time they invested with the back ground checks and in-service(on-line). Please, let me know what other EIDT’s have encountered and any solutions to this hiring dilemma.
