Required Trainings After we have reviewed the employee training section of the new standards for CES Providers, we do not see that employees are required to have the 12 hours of continued education each year. It only states the Orientation Training and Beneficiary Specific training necessary to work with a client and then a refresher training on those same topics every other calendar year. There is no mention of a specific number of hours needed; it just states “in the amount necessary to safely meet the individualized needs of those beneficiaries “. Can you tell us how other providers have interpreted these new standards in regards to required training hours.
Training Hours Requirement No, you do not have to meet a specific number of hours. The waiver does not require a set number of training hours, as long as the required topics are covered. Providers can choose which trainings to offer, based on the approved list. Some providers choose to conduct training annually instead of every other yearbecause every other year is difficult to track In practice, the total training time often ends up exceeding 12 hours. Training Content & Documentation Training titles must match the topics listed in the standards. New employee orientation typically lasts 4–6 hours overall, with 2 hours dedicated to supervisors. Client-specific training should be at least 1 hour. A comment or example must be included on the Specific Client Training Form to document the training.
