When a child tests out of a specific therapy in the EIDT setting but will continue that therapy as an outpatient, a **new prescription/order** is generally required for outpatient billing — the EIDT-based prescription and authorization are specific to the EIDT program context.

Recommended steps for a smooth transition:
1. Contact the child’s physician to request a new outpatient prescription as soon as it is known the child will transition to outpatient.
2. Confirm with the PASSE whether a brief transition window is allowed while the new script is being obtained. Some PASSEs provide a short continuation period.
3. Do **not** bill EIDT procedure codes once the child has been discharged from EIDT status for that therapy — outpatient therapy must be billed under outpatient procedure codes with a separate authorization.
4. Document the discharge from EIDT therapy, the transition plan, and the referral for outpatient services in the child’s record.

If there will be a gap in services while the outpatient authorization is processed, document this in the medical record and communicate it clearly to the family.
